Fencing in Dubai

Fencing in Dubai

After winning the senior national championships for the first time, I was invited to participate in a competition in Dubai by my sponsor, Shahram Massoumi. I fortunately finished my tests just the day before we flew out, otherwise I would not have been allowed to go. The competition was quite an odd experience. We started in the evening instead of the morning, since it was ramadan. Because I won all matches in my poule, and won the two eliminations after that, I made it to the finale two days later. The first day was not too difficult for me, but the finale was. I had to fence against Besbes from Tunisia, who was second at the world championships last year. I tried my best, but my opponent was just a higher caliber. It was nice to experience what it is like to fence against an olympian.

I was in Dubai with my trainer for about a week. In that week, we explored the city, went to the beach and the waterpark one day. We had delicious dinners over there as well. I had such an amazing time, fencing and exploring the city. All thanks to Shahram Massoumi from Al Maasa who sponsored the trip.
